German banker Dr. Hans Wuttke (1923–2000) and Croatia’s greatest tapestry artist Jagoda Buić (1930–2022) met in 1981 in Washington and got married that same year. The couple met at the peak of their careers. By then, Jagoda Buić was already a well-known name in international art circles, associated with the New Tapestry movement, and had held major museum shows. Dr. Hans Wuttke was a high-ranking international banker and, in 1981, became an executive vice president of the International Finance Corporation, an affiliate of the World Bank. The Wuttke-Buić couple had always wished to support young artists and preserve Buić’s artistic legacy.

Since 2019, the Foundation, founded by the artist in honour of her husband and their shared vision, has been dedicated to the extensive oeuvre of one of Croatia’s greatest tapestry artists of the second half of the twentieth century. The primary mission of the Foundation is to preserve Buić’s rich legacy, enhance comprehension of her work, and make it accessible to the public. Additionally, the Foundation extends its mission to developing projects and programs in the artist’s name and to supporting young artists.

The Foundation is represented by a Board of Directors comprising Dr. Nikolaus Hensel as President, Dr. Daniel Schütze as Vice-President, and two members: Oliver Arter and Vera Schütze.
